This is an outline of The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and how the money will be spent. This bill was signed into law on February 17th, 2009.
The total 2009 economic stimulus package amount totals more than $800 billion dollars and will be spent in many different ways. Over $564 billion of this will be in spending and fueling the economy. The remaining will be spent on tax breaks that will have a longer more indirect effect on the economy.
Where will this money go?
Over $237 billion of this funding will be in tax relief for individuals and $51 billion in tax relief for businesses.
There will be a one-time payment to social security beneficiaries in the amount of $250.00 in addition to their regular benefits. Unemployment beneficiaries will see an increase of up to $25.00 per week in benefits. Many working Americans will see more money back in their paychecks as part of a payroll tax credit. This credit could total nearly $700.00 annually for individuals.
